Dubuque's Town Clock, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, rises 108 feet over downtown Dubuque and has stood over the city for over 130 years. The present clock is the second Town Clock; the first collapsed in the 1870's. For a number of years, the clock had a mechanical movement. Two employees spent an hour and a half winding cranks that were attached to the weights, which would allow the clock to operate for one week.
